“God Told me I could have this mountain if I painted it enough.” - Georgia O’Keeffe
El Padernal - 2010
Georgia’s Path - 2010
My husband and I went to New Mexico to write, to paint, to open our minds, and to heal. I walked the pathways that Georgia O’Keeffe walked, I painted her mountain, and I fell in love with the land. I felt the drum of the native tribes in the soil. I have reverence for the land, for the big skies, and for my brushes and my paints.
Steps to Redemption - 2010
Labyrinth - 2010
I had the great fortune to meet Mimi Gilbert at an all-school Gund Event at Westminster School. I was able to give Mimi this painting as a thank you present. Mimi’s music has been a part of my love story with my husband since we first heard their magical voice at Abiquiu Lake in New Mexico during this adventure.
God’s Whisper - 2010
I went for a long hike to paint this image atop a plateau. I painted there for several hours and began packing up my paints and easel. In the wind I heard a distant whisper. It was a soft cry for help. I walked closer to the edge and the distinct cry, “help” was heard over the wind. I discovered a woman was there stuck on the side of the cliff. She had been hiking and found her way to a cave-like area on the side of the mountain. She couldn’t get out safely and the ledge was precarious. I laid on my belly and crawled close to the edge to let her know that I was going to get help for her. I never saw her face, only her voice. I knew I wouldn’t be able to rescue her alone. She was scared and the light was getting low. I marked the trail and was able to hike to a point where I called for help with my cell phone. They sent up a rescue team for her and she was saved several hours later in the dark. I never met her, but I am grateful for this painting, for it lead me to hear God’s whisper.
For Clare - 2010
I painted this image for Clare Thaw, a kindred spirit who loved to contemplate life on this bench.
